The products above will give you a good idea of what to look out for. But there are a few other pieces of equipment included as well. Taboo cards will give you the word the other players must guess. Taboo cards are double-sided and come with their special card tray.
The tray also acts as an aisle for you to hold the card up as well. But you will usually get around different Taboo cards. Taboo comes with an hourglass timer. Each round in Taboo will only be a minute long before it moves to the next player. While using the hourglass is recommended under standard Taboo game rules, you can just as easily use a stopwatch or your smartphone. The buzzer or squeaker is a way for the non-playing team to say you have used a Taboo word.
If they notice this and sound the buzzer, then that card must be instantly discarded. Taboo is a very relaxed game which makes it great for parties. However, like many group games , it does have a points system.
Your aim is to score as many points as you can when playing. Or trying to get around them in other ways. Taboo is best played with a group, ideally with an even number of people. The buzzer requires two AA batteries. Game setup: Six or more players are divided up into two teams, with one team referred to as Team A and the other team referred to as Team B. This person takes the card holder and places the first card away from his team so that they cannot see it. Clue cards have the clue word on the top of the card and the taboo words listed below the clue word.
Clue-givers then start and keep the timer and must get their team to say the guess-word on the card without using one of the taboo words in one of their clues. If a taboo word is used then Team B must sound the buzzer which penalizes Team A by causing the current guess card to go into the discard pile.
Play is continued until time runs out. Each time a teammate successfully guesses a clue-word, a new card is placed upon the old and each card in this pile represents one point for Team A. Gameplay and Scoring: The team not giving clues must watch for Taboos or other violations of the rules. If they successfully spot a rule being broken, they may use their buzzer to interrupt play and very briefly explain the infraction. Every time the giver says a word they were not supposed to, the buzzer hits the buzzer and that clue card is now failed.
The buzzing team gets the point for that bizzed card. GAMEPLAY Take Score After the timer finishes and the round is over, count up all the successful clue cards gotten none of the failed cards and that is how many points you get for the round. It now passes over to the other team and everything is reversed. They give clues to their team and the other team buzzes. This back and forth continues until the game ends. That means if you have four player teams, you will be playing four rounds.
If the teams have an uneven number of players, someone gives twice. In the case of a tie, each team chooses their best clue giver and there is a final showdown. As you can see, learning how to play Taboo is incredibly easy. No form or part of ANY word printed on the card may be given as a clue.
No gestures may be made. No sound effects or noises may be made, such as explosions or engine noises, however, feel free to break into song. No initials or abbreviations can be given if the words they represent are included on the card.
